Leon Flicker

Professor Leon Flicker AO
Director,
AAG Fellow

Professor Leon Flicker is director of the WA Centre for Health and Ageing. He leads a productive research centre aimed at cutting edge translational issues focusing on the health needs of older people. Prof Flicker is the inaugural Professor of Geriatric Medicine at the University of Western Australia, since 1998. He remains a practicing geriatrician and is Head of the Inner City Geriatric Services in Perth, Western Australia. Read more.

Professor Osvaldo Almeida
Director of Research, 2014 Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists Senior Research Award, 2014 GESB Award for Improved Outcomes in Seniors’ Mental Health

Osvaldo P. Almeida completed his undergraduate medical training at the University of São Paulo in Brazil, and his research postgraduate training at the Institute of Psychiatry in London, UK, being awarded his PhD in 1993. He has been the Chair of Geriatric Psychiatry of the University of Western Australia since 2001, and Director of Research of the Western Australian Centre for Health & Ageing since 2008. He has been the recipient of numerous awards, including the beyondblue Inspiration Award, Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists Senior Research Award, and the GESB Award for Improved Outcomes in Seniors’ Mental Health.

Christopher

Dr Andrew Ford
Mental Health Lead Investigator, 2016 NHMRC Dementia Fellow

Dr Ford is an Older Adult Consultant Psychiatrist at Royal Perth Hospital and Senior Lecturer in Psychiatry at the University of Western Australia. Dr Ford completed his medical degree in 1996 and his Fellowship in psychiatry with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatry in early 2008. He also completed a certificate in Old Age Psychiatry with the College. Dr Ford's research interests include; mental health of older Australians, dementia, mood disorders and late-onset psychotic disorders.


Christopher

Associate Professor Christopher Etherton-Beer
Aged Care and Medications Lead Investigator, 2015 Senior Advocate Award

Christopher Etherton-Beer is an Associate Professor in Geriatric Medicine at the University of Western Australia, and a Geriatrician and Clinical Pharmacologist at Royal Perth Hospital. Christopher serves on the Federal Council of the Australian and New Zealand Society for Geriatric Medicine, the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee, and the Board of Juniper. Christopher is the immediate past Chair of the RACP Advanced Training Committee in Geriatric Medicine, and Chairs the Western Australian Therapeutics Advisory Group. Christopher has research interests in pharmaco-geriatrics, stroke, aged care and medical education.
