In thanking Woodside, Professor Peter Leedman, the Director of the Perkins, said that the donation will enable the Perkins to appoint an outstanding researcher whose projects will have the greatest potential to yield valuable findings in an area of cancer.
“While the survival rates for many cancers have improved because of medical research, there are some cancers for which the prognosis is poor and it is these cancers that are the focus of our research at the Perkins”, said Professor Leedman.
Woodside Chief Financial Officer Lawrie Tremaine said Woodside was proud to support the Fellowship as part of its community investment program.
“Woodside’s support of cancer research had been inspired by the dedication and commitment of our employees and their passion to make a difference,” Mr Tremaine said.
Woodside’s Ride to Conquer Cancer team was the second highest fundraising team in Australia this year, raising $283,257 for the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research.
Team Captain and Woodside Engineering General Manager, Dave Harwood, started up the team two years ago when his sister was recovering from breast cancer.
