Perkins Director, Professor Peter Leedman, welcomed the visiting mayors and offered them a tour of the Perkins facilities and laboratory spaces which house over 400 scientists and clinicians.
Houston, a ‘sister city’ of Perth, is home to the Baylor College of Medicine a world renowned medical research centre. Professor Leedman said he hoped that this visit would boost collaboration between the two research centres.
“We hope to build relationships with Houston’s medical science community and generate internationally recognised research that will benefit the global community,” Professor Leedman said.
The visit concluded with a tour of the Lotterywest BioDiscovery Centre, a state-of-the-art teaching laboratory that underpins the Institute’s education outreach program.
Mayor Annise Parker was joined by members of her delegation and accompanying officials, who were in town to “see how Perth became named one of the most liveable cities in the world”.
