Linear Clinical Research Ltd, has won a number of prizes at the Department of Commerce 2013 Western Australian Industry and Export awards, including the prestigious Premier’s Award for Excellence.
Linear is an early phase clinical trials facility conducting first-in-human clinical trials of new drugs and therapies which was founded by the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research.
The facility also won the award for the Health and Biotechnology Export category and received special commendations in the Small Business and Business Services categories.
The Minister for Commerce, Michael Mischin, presented the awards to Linear Chairman and Director Designate of the Harry Perkins Institute, Professor Peter Leedman.
“It’s the first time that a healthcare and biotechnology company has taken out the top honours in the awards’ 25 year history,” Professor Leedman said.
“The competitive advantage of Linear rests in its strong "can-do culture" inside a world best facility, rapid ethics turnaround and relatively uncomplicated regulatory environment (compared to the United States), special links with the Dept of Health that allows a unique recruitment strategy and of course spades of hard work in a collaborative environment and with a supportive Linear Clinical Research Board.”
“It is an excellent outcome for Linear, for the Perkins, a testament to the WAIMR Board for taking on the venture some years ago and a glowing example of how a $9.5m investment from the Department of Commerce can be turned into a highly successful enterprise within the health sector,” he said.
Linear Clinical Research is 1 of only 5 dedicated specialist clinical trials organisations in Australia that conducts first-in-human clinical trials and is the only facility of its type in Western Australia. It was established in April 2010 and has secured contracts from Top 10 Big Pharmaceutical companies and Fortune 500 biotechnology companies.
The winners of the WA Industry and Export awards will continue to the National Export Awards which will be held in Melbourne in November 2013.
