Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research Director, Professor Peter Leedman, was more than just a good host when the Motor Neurone Disease Association of WA held a ‘MND: Ask the Experts’ session at the Institute.
Professor Leedman took part in a video stunt which has gone viral around the world - the Ice Bucket Challenge - in order to raise awareness of MND, which can have similar symptoms to ALS and Lou Gehrig's disease.
Mr Royce Lee, who has MND (left) and MNDAWA Executive Officer, Fionnuala Franey, poured water and ice over Professor Leedman's head outside the Institute's Medical Research building in Nedlands.
It was an afternoon break during the forum, and medical researchers, including those involved in neurogenetic research, came out to applaud.
The ‘Ask the Experts’ session was open to anyone with an interest in motor neurone disease, including people living with MND, carers, family, health care professionals, students and service providers.
Guest speakers included Perkins Neurogenetics researcher, Professor Nigel Laing as well as experts in palliative care and neurology.
