Funding for melanoma research
Two scholarships, valued at $15,000 each, will give two talented PhD students additional funding to focus their studies on new discoveries and innovative treatments for melanoma.
The Prendiville Family Melanoma Research Scholarship was created to honour the Prendiville family who has been an incredibly strong supporter of the Kirkbride Melanoma Centre since it began.
The Prendivilles have been raising funds for melanoma research for the past ten years by participating in marathons across some of the world’s harshest terrains. The family has raised an amazing total of over $200,000.
The Mater Foundation – Smiling for Smiddy Melanoma Scholarship was established in honour of Adam Smiddy who passed away after a short battle against an aggressive
melanoma in 2006, aged just 26.
Smiddy, as his friends affectionately called him, was a talented triathlete and physiotherapist. The Smiling for Smiddy Scholarship is funded through participation in the SunSmart Ironman event in Busselton.
