A class of 28 Presbyterian Ladies College (PLC) students were on the lookout for a deadly mutation obtained from the genes of two melanoma patients and one non-mutated gene patient, when they experienced a hands-on scientific workshop in the Lotterywest BioDiscovery Centre. Read more.

The second year of the highly successful Perkins Profs program has begun with Scotch College signing up forextra curricularclasses in the Lotterywest BioDiscovery Centre. The classes take place once a week, after school hours and involve hands-on research activities with a Perkins scientist.

Foreign minister tries her hand in the lab

The Hon. Julie Bishop visited the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research for the first time since the building's completion, trying her hand at pipetting in the BioDiscovery Laboratory.

The Perth International school was also here for a taste of the Institute's melanoma research and student MartinKuehnlshowed the minister the technique, shortly after learning it himself.
